Volvo Cars has officially announced the pricing and details for its 2025 model year lineup in the United States, showcasing a significant step towards electrification and reinforcing its commitment to luxury, safety, and sustainability. Leading the charge are two brand-new, all-electric SUVs: the Volvo EX90 and the Volvo EX30, poised to redefine expectations in the EV market.
Volvo Embraces Electric Future with New 2025 Lineup
Volvo Cars is dedicated to providing customers with a seamless transition to electric mobility. The 2025 lineup offers a comprehensive range of powertrains, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric options, ensuring there’s a Volvo car to suit every lifestyle and preference. This commitment reflects Volvo’s broader vision of a sustainable and electric future for personal transportation.
Introducing the All-Electric Volvo EX90: Flagship of Safety and Sustainability
The Volvo EX90, unveiled in late 2022, stands as the brand’s new flagship SUV and embodies a new era of safety and sustainability. This seven-seat luxury SUV elevates Volvo’s renowned safety standards while promoting a more eco-conscious lifestyle. Built on a dedicated electric platform, the Volvo EX90 eliminates the compromise between practicality and zero-emission driving. It boasts an impressive all-electric range of up to 310 miles* and rapid charging capabilities, allowing for a 10-80 percent charge in approximately 30 minutes*.
The EX90 embodies Scandinavian design principles, presenting a versatile and stylish family vehicle that seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology with elegant proportions. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the interior provides a serene and luxurious environment, characteristic of Volvo cars.
All Volvo EX90 models destined for the Americas will be manufactured at Volvo Cars’ state-of-the-art plant near Charleston, South Carolina, underscoring Volvo’s commitment to the US market. The Volvo EX90 starts at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $79,995.
Volvo EX30: Compact Electric SUV Delivering Performance and Value
At the other end of the spectrum, the Volvo EX30 has quickly become a popular choice in Europe’s electric vehicle market since its debut in June 2023. Now, American customers can access the highly anticipated 422 hp EX30 Twin Motor Performance model, available in Plus or Ultra trim levels, with a starting MSRP of $44,900. This positions the Volvo EX30 as an accessible entry point into the world of premium electric Volvo cars.
The extended-range Twin Motor Performance variant features all-wheel drive and proudly holds the title of the quickest-accelerating Volvo car ever produced. Despite its compact size, the EX30 doesn’t compromise on performance or range. With a charging capacity of up to 153 kW, the Volvo EX30 achieves a range of 253 miles*. Its fast-charging capability allows for a 10 to 80 percent battery top-up in just over 25 minutes*. Like all Volvo cars, the EX30 upholds the brand’s commitment to safety, quality, and distinctive Scandinavian design.
EX40 and EC40: Streamlining the Electric Volvo Lineup
For the 2025 model year, Volvo is simplifying its electric vehicle nomenclature. The fully electric XC40 Recharge will now be known as the Volvo EX40, aligning it with the EX30 and EX90 within the all-electric family. The XC40 name will be retained for mild-hybrid versions of the model. Similarly, the C40 Recharge will be renamed the Volvo EC40 and is slated to return to the U.S. market for the 2026 model year. This name change provides clarity and consistency across Volvo’s growing EV portfolio, making it easier for customers to navigate the electric Volvo car options.
The Volvo EX40 Twin Motor variant receives an upgraded 82 kWh battery, increased from 78 kWh, further enhancing its range and performance. Both the Single Motor and Twin Motor variants benefit from an improved charge rate, now reaching 205kW DC, up from 200 kW, for faster charging times.
Enhanced Volvo XC90: Classic SUV, Modern Updates
The Volvo XC90, an iconic and award-winning model, receives a comprehensive suite of technology and design updates for the 2025.5 model year, making it the best iteration yet. This flagship hybrid SUV blends classic Volvo car values with modern enhancements.
The 2025.5 Volvo XC90 features several exterior and interior design refinements, resulting in a more contemporary and refined aesthetic. The front end has been completely redesigned to harmonize with Volvo’s electric car design language, projecting a more modern and sophisticated presence. The signature T-shaped headlight design, “Thor’s Hammer,” has been modernized with a slimmer shape and lens that extends to the front air intake, creating a high-tech look and further enhancing the Volvo car’s road presence.
Inside, the cabin has been reconfigured with improved sound insulation and new premium materials, elevating comfort and usability for a more luxurious and intuitive experience. A new free-standing center display and an updated user interface enhance the digital experience within the XC90. Technical upgrades, including an improved chassis with new damper technology, contribute to enhanced comfort without compromising handling. The Volvo XC90 starts at an MSRP of $58,450.
Volvo Cars’ hybrid powertrain technologies prioritize efficient power without compromise. All powertrains are engineered to deliver high performance combined with fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The new Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid T8 eAWD offers 33 miles* of electric range on a single charge, providing both electric driving capability and the reassurance of a gasoline engine backup.
Simplified Naming for Volvo Plug-in Hybrids
Volvo is streamlining its naming convention for plug-in hybrid models. The ‘Recharge’ designation has been removed, and these models will now be identified simply by the T8 suffix, indicating their power output level. This simplified naming system clarifies the distinction between fully electric and hybrid Volvo cars for customers worldwide.
