CAR 15: Exploring the Iconic CAR-15 XM177 Commando “Blood Diamond”

The CAR-15 XM177, also known as the CAR-15 Commando, emerged in 1966 as a direct response to the demands of the US military during the Vietnam War. Recognizing the need for a more compact and maneuverable M16 variant for the dense jungle warfare, the Car 15 Commando was developed to overcome the limitations of earlier, less refined shortened M16 models. This initiative led to the creation of a truly iconic firearm, perfectly suited for specialized operations.

The TYPE-A Blood Diamond embodies the spirit of the original CAR-15 Commando, built with meticulous attention to detail and performance. Constructed around an accurate fixed carry handle upper receiver, users can choose between the classic A2 style or the enhanced C7 variant, depending on their specific preferences and tactical needs. This adaptability ensures the rifle can be tailored to a wide range of operational scenarios. Furthermore, the Blood Diamond incorporates battle-proven, mil-spec components throughout its construction, guaranteeing exceptional reliability and versatility in the field.

At the heart of the TYPE-A Blood Diamond is a high-quality 10.5-inch barrel crafted from durable 4150 Valium steel. This barrel length is ideal for maintaining maneuverability while still providing effective ballistic performance. The rifle also features a modified XM-177 muzzle device, paying homage to the classic Commando lineage while enhancing muzzle control. The integration of a 7-hole classic clamshell handguard not only provides a comfortable and secure grip but also contributes to the rifle’s retro aesthetic. Complementing these features are an A2 pistol grip and a CAR15 style stock, completing the ergonomic profile of this compact firearm.

Internally, the TYPE-A Blood Diamond is powered by the TYPE-A QPQ bolt carrier group, which includes a R.E.M Polish for smoother operation and enhanced durability. The direct gas impingement (DGI) system ensures reliable cycling, a critical factor in demanding environments. Furthermore, the inclusion of the new TYPE-A PMC Straight 2-stage trigger elevates the shooting experience, providing consistent and predictable trigger pulls for improved accuracy and control.

Please note that the Blood Diamond is exclusively available as an SBR (Short-Barreled Rifle). Each rifle package includes a Weaver Style mount and an Aimpoint PRO optic as standard equipment, providing users with a high-quality sighting solution right out of the box. To ensure uniformity and durability, all firearms undergo a factory spray paint application, providing a consistent and robust finish.

TYPE-A goes the extra mile in finish durability. All rifles are Hardcoat Anodized before being Cerakoted. This process ensures that wear and tear will reach the anodized layer first, preserving the underlying aluminum and significantly extending the lifespan and aesthetic appeal of the rifle, setting TYPE-A apart from competitors.

Important Note: Compliance with all NFA rules is mandatory. Customers are responsible for verifying and adhering to all local and state laws regarding SBR ownership.
