We are pleased to announce the launch of the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA), a groundbreaking new agency established on July 1, 2024. This initiative marks a significant advancement in our commitment to providing comprehensive health care and essential safety net services to all New Mexicans. The Health Care Authority is the result of a strategic consolidation, bringing together key departments including the New Mexico Human Services Department, the State Employee Benefits team from the General Services Department, the Developmental Disabilities Supports Division and Division of Health Improvement from the New Mexico Department of Health, and the Health Care Affordability Fund from the Office of Superintendent of Insurance.
This unification under the New Mexico Health Care Authority is more than a structural change; it represents a bold step towards realizing a healthier New Mexico. By centralizing these critical functions, the health care authority aims to leverage enhanced purchasing power, foster strategic partnerships, and utilize sophisticated data analytics. These capabilities will be instrumental in developing innovative policies and comprehensive coverage models tailored to the diverse needs of New Mexicans.
