Since the iOS 17.1 update, some iPhone users have reported issues with Wireless Car Chargers, particularly in models like the Buick Enclave. Prior to this update, wireless charging functionality was working seamlessly. However, after upgrading to iOS 17.1, a problem emerged where the iPhone would initiate charging on the wireless car charger for approximately 10 seconds before abruptly stopping.
This issue seems isolated to in-car wireless car chargers, as users report no problems with wireless charging at home using standard wireless chargers. Interestingly, devices not updated to iOS 17.1, as well as Android devices, do not exhibit this charging problem in the same vehicle. Further testing in another 2022 Buick Enclave confirmed the identical malfunction, suggesting the issue isn’t isolated to a single vehicle or charging pad defect. Plugging the iPhone directly into the car’s USB port for charging still functions correctly, and wireless CarPlay remains unaffected, indicating the problem is specifically tied to wireless car charging.
While a subsequent iOS update to 17.1.1 did not resolve the problem, users are hopeful that a future iOS update or a vehicle software update from GM/Buick may address this incompatibility. The root cause is currently unclear, but the timing of the issue immediately following the iOS 17.1 update strongly suggests a software-related conflict. For now, affected users are experiencing a minor inconvenience, as cable charging remains a viable alternative. The focus remains on identifying whether the problem lies within the iOS software or requires an update to the vehicle’s system to restore full wireless car charger compatibility.
