Mr. Brightwell brings over two decades of extensive experience in animal care and a proven track record of leadership to this crucial role within Broward County. Mr. Brightwell joins Broward County Animal Care from Pinellas County Animal Services, where he served as Director of Animal Services for the past eight years. His journey in Pinellas County began in 2013, progressing from Field Services Manager to Interim Director before assuming the Director position. Prior to his civilian career, Mr. Brightwell dedicated himself to public service through honorable service in both the United States Air Force and Navy. His commitment to leadership and service is further underscored by his academic achievements, holding a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration in Human Resources Management from Auburn University. Adding to his professional qualifications, Mr. Brightwell is a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator by The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement, demonstrating his expertise and dedication to the field. He has also actively contributed to animal welfare leadership through his involvement with the Florida Animal Control Association, serving on the Board of Directors from 2015 to 2022.
Broward County Administrator, Monica Cepero, expressed strong confidence in Mr. Brightwell’s selection, stating, “After extensive conversation about community partnerships, municipal relationships, team leadership, and policy direction, I am confident we found the right match to lead our Animal Care Division into the next era. Mr. Brightwell is compassionate, experienced and will be dedicated to animal welfare in Broward County.”
Mr. Brightwell himself conveyed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, “It will be an honor to serve the residents of Broward County and the animals who need and deserve our help.
