Since updating to iOS 17.1, some iPhone users have reported issues with wireless Charger Car functionality in their 2022 Buick Enclaves. Before the update, wireless charging worked seamlessly, but now, the phone will initiate charging for a brief period, approximately 10 seconds, before disconnecting.
This issue appears to be isolated to iPhones running iOS 17.1, as other iPhones on older iOS versions and Android devices charge without problems in the same vehicles. The problem is also replicated in another 2022 Buick Enclave, suggesting it’s not an isolated vehicle issue.

Troubleshooting steps have included checking for vehicle software updates and confirming that the in-car wireless charging pad is not defective. Wired charging via cable in the Buick Enclave still functions normally, and wireless CarPlay is unaffected, indicating the issue is specifically with wireless charger car power delivery. Interestingly, wireless charging works as expected on home wireless chargers, further pointing to a compatibility problem between iOS 17.1 and the Buick Enclave’s charger car system.

While the inconvenience is currently minor for users who infrequently rely on in-car wireless charging, and can use cable charging as a workaround, the hope is that a future iOS update or a vehicle software update from GM/Buick will resolve this charger car incompatibility. The root cause remains unclear, but given the timing coinciding with the iOS 17.1 update, a software-related issue on either the phone or vehicle side is suspected. Further testing on charger car pads in non-GM vehicles is planned to gather more information and pinpoint the source of the problem.
