Celebrating McQueen Cars and Legacy at the Annual Steve McQueen Car Show

For over a century, Boys Republic in Chino Hills has stood as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that young individuals, regardless of their challenges, can achieve remarkable success. No one embodies this truth more profoundly than Steve McQueen, a distinguished 1946 alumnus of Boys Republic. His journey from a troubled youth to a 20th-century icon is truly inspirational. Even during his demanding Hollywood career, Steve McQueen remained deeply connected to Boys Republic, frequently visiting and utilizing his extensive network to support the school’s needs. His passion for giving back is a cornerstone of the annual event that celebrates his name and, of course, the iconic Mcqueen Car legacy.

The Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show carries forward this remarkable legacy. Under the guidance of co-chairs Chad McQueen and Ron Harris, and the creative vision of Peter Dunkel, alongside a dedicated committee of volunteers, this event has become a significant fundraiser. Since its inception in 2008, the show has generated over $4.3 million, directly benefiting meaningful programs and essential campus projects at Boys Republic. This impressive sum highlights the enduring appeal of the mcqueen car mystique and its power to draw enthusiasts together for a worthy cause.

Taking place annually on the first weekend of June, each Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show is themed around a different Steve McQueen film, adding a fresh dimension each year. The event has expanded to include a Commemorative Dinner and a Welcome Party, making it a full weekend experience. Thousands of attendees flock to the expansive grounds of Steve McQueen’s alma mater each year, drawn by the allure of classic cars, motorcycles, and the enduring legend of Steve McQueen and his association with iconic vehicles – the quintessential mcqueen car.

To further build excitement for the main event, the car show committee also organizes The Steve McQueen Car Show Rally each spring. This weekend destination drive offers a more intimate experience for a limited number of participants. For those who wish to delve deeper into the mcqueen car culture and enjoy a scenic driving experience, this rally is a perfect prelude to the main show. Reflecting the core values of Boys Republic, student involvement is integral to every aspect of the car show. From grounds preparation and spectator parking coordination to serving at the Friday night dinner and numerous other tasks, the students’ contribution is palpable throughout the event. This hands-on participation not only supports the smooth running of the show but also provides invaluable learning experiences for the students, fostering a sense of responsibility and community engagement, all while celebrating the spirit of the mcqueen car show.

Peter Dunkel, a committee member, conceived the unique idea of having students craft the trophies. Utilizing donated car parts and their creativity in the campus woodshop, they create truly special awards. Below, student judges proudly present one of these handcrafted trophies to a delighted winner. The Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show is more than just a display of automobiles; it’s an opportunity to connect automotive and McQueen aficionados with Boys Republic and the inspiring journey of its students as they work towards a brighter future, fueled by the legacy of giving back associated with the mcqueen car community.
