SUNY Schenectady and MVP Health Care Launch Workforce Development Program for Healthcare Careers

SUNY Schenectady and Mvp Health Care have joined forces to introduce a groundbreaking workforce development program in the Capital Region. This initiative aims to create a robust talent pipeline for the burgeoning healthcare industry. The cornerstone of this partnership is a new, two-part training program designed to equip individuals with the skills necessary for success in health and dental insurance sectors. This program caters to both newcomers seeking to enter the industry and current professionals aiming to enhance their expertise. All courses will be conducted at the newly established MVP Health Care Impact Lab located at SUNY Schenectady’s Center City site. MVP Health Care’s significant investment of $17,000 to the SUNY Schenectady Foundation has made the MVP Health Care Impact Lab possible, providing essential technology, software, and equipment to facilitate the training program’s launch.

The curriculum features two distinct courses: Health Insurance Customer Service Unit 1, a 15-week course, and Health Insurance Claim Processor Unit 2, spanning 13 weeks. Students have the flexibility to enroll in either course independently, sequentially, or concurrently, tailoring their learning path to their career goals. The program is meticulously designed to cover crucial aspects of health insurance operations. Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of insurance policies, health plan mechanics, claims processing, billing and coding practices, service protocols, eligibility verification, and enrollment management. These skills are fundamental for various roles within the health insurance landscape.

“We deeply value MVP Health Care’s ongoing commitment to SUNY Schenectady and are excited to host training within the new MVP Health Care Impact Lab at our Center City location,” stated Dr. Steady Moono, President of SUNY Schenectady. He emphasized the program’s role in “providing pathways to healthcare careers and specifically health insurance. This sector is experiencing high demand and offers diverse employment opportunities. We are thrilled to collaborate with MVP Health Care on this vital initiative.”

A key feature of this collaboration is MVP Health Care’s commitment to nurturing local talent. Upon course completion, MVP Health Care will offer interviews to graduates, considering them for open positions, trainee roles, and internship opportunities within the company. The curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation in medical and insurance terminology, alongside essential skills for administrative support in medical insurance, medical billing, customer service in insurance, and healthcare administration. These specialized skills are highly transferable, preparing graduates for roles not only at MVP Health Care but also at local hospitals, physician practices, and other insurance providers.

Chris Del Vecchio, President and CEO of MVP Health Care, highlighted the importance of employees, stating, “At MVP Health Care, we believe our employees are the core of our organization.” He further emphasized that “Partnering with SUNY Schenectady to invest in workforce development is crucial for the continued vitality of the Capital Region’s healthcare ecosystem. The fundamental skills gained through this specialized coursework can significantly impact an individual’s career trajectory while simultaneously supporting local businesses in their search for qualified professionals. We are proud to partner with SUNY Schenectady to present this unique opportunity to our community members and look forward to welcoming new talent to MVP Health Care in the future.”

Sarah Wilson-Sparrow, Vice President of Workforce Development and Community Education at SUNY Schenectady, described the partnership as “a ‘perfect storm’ collaboration, uniting MVP Health Care’s insurance expertise with SUNY Schenectady’s Workforce Development and Community Education Division. Together, we are creating relevant and timely training programs aimed at assisting community members in securing meaningful employment and advancing their careers.” She expressed gratitude to MVP Health Care for their “partnership, generosity, and expertise.”
