Understanding Urgent Care Dental Treatments
The Urgent Care clinic at WVU Dental focuses on addressing emergent dental needs such as significant pain, swelling, or bleeding. We do not provide routine or comprehensive dental care in this clinic. Following your urgent care visit, if further treatment is needed, you may be referred to specialized departments within WVU Dental, such as Oral Surgery, Endodontics for root canals, or Prosthodontics for crowns and bridges. These specialty areas have their own fee structures for treatment.
Dental emergencies we commonly treat include:
- Severe dental pain that is unbearable and requires immediate attention.
- Infection of wisdom teeth causing pain, swelling, and potential systemic symptoms.
- Facial swelling resulting from dental infections, infected mouth wounds, or dental trauma.
- Tooth fractures that cause pain or uncontrolled bleeding.
- Lost temporary crowns causing pain or bleeding, leaving the tooth vulnerable.
- Denture adjustments needed due to pain or impaired function.
- Orthodontic emergencies such as adjustment of wires piercing the mouth, broken or loose brackets causing discomfort or damage.

These students work under the direct supervision of our experienced faculty members, ensuring you receive quality care while contributing to the education of future dental professionals.
